Why can't a 3dfx/Glide Startrek game (like Freespace2) be made?

Directx nebulas, weapons fire and starships (cough, Starfleet Command,
hack) stink!!!

Glide is a dead API for developers to use now.

Freespace 2 just came out, with direct Glide support. Unreal Tournament was
being played in Glide well before any other API. So developers are still
using it now, eh? In fact, I JUST switched to a 3dfx card to play the Na
Pali add on to the original Unreal, since it’s non-Glide support sucks to
date. For a dead API, it sure is in use a bit on my system. Let’s see, other
then those titles, I am currently playing the old Quake 2 on my system, in
Glide, and Dethkarz in glide (although it’s D3D mode is just as good), I
think System Shock 2 is running in Glide mode (?). I can’t remember the API
these other titles are using, perhaps its glide: Mech3, SW Rogue Sq,
QuakeIII? Anyway, my point is that I am directly benefiting from Glide
support on many of the titles I am running right now. I would still have to
recommend a $75 Voodoo3 2000 over any other card in it’s price range to
    friends, wouldn’t you?

These games are based on previous graphics engines with built in
glide support. I have a voodoo 2 myself, but I have a TNT2 as well.
There’s no point using glide any more since there is now a sizable number
of video cards that can run games in D3D and OGL with high quality images
and speed without the need for glide. The only thing voodoo 3 cards are
gaining with glide now is 100fps instead of 80fps. I think I can part with
the 20 extra fps for other options.

Yes, they did it because at the time the voodoo 2 was the best

Yes, one would wonder if Epic took some sort of payment to do
that. Though I was playing it on both my voodoo2 and my tnt2 with CL’s
    glide driver.

I disagree. I play the game in openGL mode on my tnt2 all the
time, which no issues at all. The D3D mode is still very buggy IMO, though
it has nothing to do with D3D, it’s Epic’s questionable programming
skills. Unreal is one of the bloatiest games in existance after all.

Unreal’s OpenGL mode was WAY too dark on my TNT2. It’s D3D had numerous
texture problems on it as well. Works like a champ in Glide on my Voodoo3.
Quake2 was also way too dark on my TNT2, however, I could tweak the hell out
of it and get a nice playable image with a little work. Again, looks great
in Glide MiniGL mode on the Voodoo!

Umm, all you need to do is turn up the gamma a little for the

I could never get any changes I made to the gamma to look right. Oh, and the
only texture problems I ever had with the TNT2 was in Unreal’s D3D mode, and
I am sure it’s Unreal’s fault. I had the same texture problems with my old
TNT1. This wouldn’t have been a problem if I could get the OpenGL to look
right. For the gamma, are there red/green/blue sliders? Did you move all of
    them up equally? How far?

Incidentally, I just looked at all of these titles on an ATI Rage 128 this
weekend. Speed and resolution was never a problem, but they sure aren’t
anywhere near as pretty as they are on a TNT2 or Voodoo3. Some textures
looked so bad I thought it was doing software rendering at first! ATI is a
sorry excuse for a video card these days. Quake2 looked better on my old
    i740!

There’s an actual Gamma slider. I usually have it turned up to
about 1.4 for games and save it as a profile that can be activated with
