XWA: question

nowhere to run? mission  How can I avoid getting the damn warheads
container blown off my ass.  As soon as I intercept the tie fighters,
about 6 missiles come flying in and blow it up, mission failed.  One
time I went ahead and flew to the rebel jumpoint and it wouldn’t let
me do anything and nobody said anything.  I couldn’t hyper out or dock
with the cruiser.  i can’t seem to get around this.  Does anyone have
any tips?

Thanks,
Brantley

Throttle and XWA

I’ve just bought XWA and I’m running it on my 233 mmx 64 sdram V2, not
perfect but all right. I’ve only got a Thrustmaster X-fighter joystick. I
was thinking about buying an attack throttle for my flight sims. Can it be
used with XWA as well, it has lost of buttons and hats which would be very
useful in XWA.

Thanks

P.S. any tips on increasing performance so far I’ve got
MinFilecache=8192
MaxFilecache=8192
Permanent Swap File 250 mb
only a virus scanner running in the background

XWA: Blows chunks

No kidding. Anyone who does a www search will find that I
really liked the original Xwing. In fact I did the Maze guide
which may still be available on the web somewhere. XWA
though seems like a kid’s game to me. I cannot stomach that
droid at the main screen. FWIW, I did the first 2 campaign
missions, and I was expecting something better than WC:
Prophecy. XWA is not it, I felt like I was doing a Saturday
morning kids cartoon or something. Maybe my 12 year old
and 8 year old nephews will like the game :-)

As for mission load times that my buddy D. Masten was
asking about, mine loaded in 15 seconds (very reasonable).
I have a Dell XPS R450 with a 32x CDrom and 128MB
of ram and 11GB of free diskspace which W98 uses for
the swapfile (no perm swapfile for me). The game itself
ran great even the 3D sound. As for game play though
I found it to be a very disappointing game…

If anyone want’s to offer me $25 for my copy I may be willing
to sell it as the nephews only have a 200mmx (My old ‘puter)
with Voodoo1.

Thought on XWA and Zahn Books

I played one of the later missions, where you’re looking for the mercenary
base, you jack some bad data as to its location, and end up in the lap of six
Star Destoyers.

Then I looked verrrrry closely at the names of those Star Destroyers.

The Relentless.  The Death’s Head.

The Chimaera.

I wonder if the folks at Totally Games read the Zahn cycles of Star Wars books,
hm?

And if so, I wonder … there are some very nice battles described in the books
that might translate very well to the XWA engine …

Sluis Van or Bilbringi, anyone?

XWA: mission editor in the works?

Does anyone know of a 3rd party mission editor in the works? There were some
decent ones a while ago for XvT.

Problem with mission.

I can’t seem to finish the mission where Aeron is supposed to plant a
listening device on a communication satellite. This is what happens:

- I jump in, kill the fighters, the mines and the mine layer.
– Find the satellite.
– Aeron flies to it, docks and starts working.
– the flying Storm troopers arrive. I kill the ones targeting her
first, and then the ones attacking me.

Now, sometime during the storm trooper attack, aeron leaves the
satellite and returns to my ship and docks. However it never says
she’s finished, so I figure that I need to kill off the rest of the
ships. I do this. As a matter of fact I tried turning on invul and
also killed the capital ship. Still no go. There is also no return
hyperpoint.

This smells very much like a scripting error. She leaves the satellite
too early, and doesn’t go back to finish later. Neither she or the
satellite was damaged either. The mission hints shows nothing that I
didn’t try (only to kill her attackers before me and to run to the
never-existing navpoint from the ties).

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Finally!! XWA finished! :)

I played the entire game in Medium difficulty level and boy, the last
mission is just…  shall I say, almost impossible.  But I’m so glad that
it’s over:

Thought I’d throw in some hints for those of you who are in need, I mean
I was silly enough to attemp this last mission in the beginning without
blasting a thing, I thought it was a maze kinda deal where you have to dodge
things – wrong!

    Anyways…

    1) First off, yeah those tubes and other obstalces CAN be destroyed.
This makes life a lot easier for people like us who figure you have to dodge
them.
    2) When you reach the container area, just try to do as Lando
recommended, get between the containers, in that case you won’t get stuck
and collide with other crafts.
    3) Soon after the container area you’ll come towards a fork.  If you
wanna pick up some bonus points, go left and shoot the laser power
source/lens, but if you can’t wait to finish the game, head right.
    4) This is the first of 2 area where you can actually STOP your ship and
regain shields because the other crafts will be set to "escort" you instead
of "following" you (i.e. won’t bump into you).  Focus your fire on the
turret first and then just use your auto-turret on the Zero-g troopers, then
sit back, relax and regain some shields.
    5) When going through those tubes, I usually set my laser/shields to max
and then go at 2/3 throttle (I know it’s not really Star Wars-like, but hey
it works).
    6) As soon as you can see the reactor, target it and then cycle
component to "reactor" and prepare to fire 2 missles at it.  Wait until
Wedge has shoot his missle and the hull of the reactor goes down to 75% and
also WAIT until Wedge has hyper (WHAT THE???!!!) out of the area first
before you shoot the missles.  Right after you shoot the missles, make a run
for the exit ASAP (or you’ll be consumed by the explosion).
    7) I usually set laser to increase and shield to maintanence.  Then just
go out ASAP and towards the end just speed up.

There you have it, you have finished the last mission, enjoy! :)

XWA campaign thoughts

Okay so I’ve finished the game and yes, they did not mention anything about
what happened to Uncle Antan or "complete" that part of the story in any
respect.  But hey, guess what?  This opens the door to campaign missions,
no?
I was thinking, both X-Wing & Tie Fighter and even XvT has campaigns, and I
really hope that XWA will have them too, and possibly a spin off where you
get to see the conclusion of the "family business".  And even better yet
incorporate all the "traders" people mentioned in Zahn’s books and also add
a little bit of Privateer "escort cargo", "modify ship (yeah soup up the
corellian transport!)" kind of deal.  I think it’ll be a blast.  As for the
story…  well, I think there are still a lot of unanswered questions like
when did Uncle Antan start to be the mole and how is Prince Xizor really
involved with the Viraxo, etc….  I really think there’re tons of room for
new explorations, send your thoughts!
